The Lake Region State College Royals traveled to Nebraska this past weekend to take on Southeast Community College for a region match up.
Game 1 vs Southeast Community College
The Royals came out ready to play versus a very highly skilled baseball team that has been a major threat in Regionals every year. When the Royals took the field they knew they were in for a fight. It all started with a Landyn Swenson double that kicked off what was to be a roller coaster game. The Royals fought hard early. They had runners on in scoring position in the early innings but just couldn't capitalize. Ryan Clark threw a great game and controlled the zone and kept the Royals in the game. The Royals took the lead in the 4th with a great team effort of getting runners on and timely hitting. Unfortunately, they could not hold a hot hitting SCC team that grabbed the win in the bottom of the 7th. The Royals lost a battel by the final score of 7-6.
Game 2 vs Southeast Community College
After a fantastic team effort in the first game the Royals came out a little flat, and the energy from Southeast was tough to match. The SCC bats came alive and our pitchers couldn't take the upper hand. With their pitcher pounding the zone and shutting our hitters down the Royals struggled to keep with SCC and lost 11-1.
Game 3 vs Southeast Community College
With a great day yesterday the Royals were ready to get back in the win column and fight against Southeast. The Royals found themselves in an early hole vs SCC scoring 5 in the first. The Royals never quit and had high energy on and off the field throughout the game. They slowly climbed their way out of the hole and scored 2 in the second and 2 in the 5th finding themselved down 7-4. Pitching from Cesar Bernal was amazing to shut down a hot SCC and keep them at bay for 6 innings. Leaving base runners on to put extra pressure on their pitchers and fielder. SCC's bat came alive again in the bottom of the 8th scoring 6 to take the game in the bottom of the 8th losing 14-4.
Head Coach Kyal Williams said, "The Scoreboard doesn't represent how well the Royals played all weekend. I couldn't be prouder of my team going out and battling against one of the top teams in the reagion. There exciting times ahead for the LRSC Baseball team. "
