Versatility on Offense leads Lady Royals to Win over UTTC

On Sunday, the Lake Region State College Lady Royals Basketball team traveled to Bismarck, ND to take on the United Tribes Technical College Thunderbirds. Coming into the game, LRSC was 17-11 (6-4) while UTTC was 12-12 (1-9).

In the first half of the game, it was the Annie Jorgenson show. She would bombard United Tribes with 6 threes to help keep the Royals in front most of the first. The score at the half was 38-26 in favor of the Royals. After the break, the Thunderbirds would try to make it interesting, closing the LRSC lead to 6. The Royals lead would settle in with an 8 point lead after the third with the score being 57-49. Every time UTTC would try and make a run in the fourth, Lake Region would shut it down. The Thunderbirds would never get closer than 6, with the Royals keeping them at bay until the very end. The final LRSC 74 UTTC 68.

Annie Jorgenson would lead the way for Lake Region, she would have 27 points on the day. Emily Schafer would fill up the stat column for the Royals as she would record 16 points 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Maggie Gilbert carried the Royals offensively in the second half scoring all 14 of her points then.

Head Coach Danny Mertens said after the game, "That was a great shooting performance by Annie Jorgenson tonight. She really put on a show in the first half. We were struggling to get some things going and she really stepped up for us. In the second, Maggie Gilbert came ready to go and gave us a great boost. Just shows how versatile of a team we can be when we want too being able to play inside out like that and control the game."

With the win Lake Region moves to 18-11 (7-4) on the year. Their final home game of the regular season will be Wednesday night vs. Dakota College at Bottineau 6:30pm at the sportscenter. Playoff implications will be on the line as the Royals are tied for 3rd in the MonDak with Bismarck State College.
