The Lake Region State College Lady Royals Volleyball Team headed to Wahpeton, ND to take on MonDak foe North Dakota State College of Science. Coming into the match the Royals were 3-18 (0-6) while the Wildcats were 18-4 (5-1). NDSCS had won the previous match between the two teams and was sitting in second place in the conference with LRSC sitting in 6th place.
It was the homecoming match for the Wildcats so they came out with a little extra incentive. In the first set the Wildcats made use of a quick start and an early run to put the Royals away and win the set 25-14. The second set, the Royals battling to stay in early not giving up the early run. However, serve receive errors in the second half of the match gave the Wildcats the opening they needed to take over for the win. NDSCS took the second set 25-15 and a 2-0 lead. The Royals decided they weren't going to go down easy and battled during the third set never letting the Wildcat lead expand. It wasn't enough as the 15 kills by the Wildcats proved to be enough to put the Royals away, the Wildcats took the third set 25-22.
Head Coach Brigitte Greywater said, "It was another night of inconsistency for us. The first set we had a slow start but a better finish. The second set we had a great start but relaxed and let them pull away. Again we were our best coming out of intermission, playing them tough in the third set. We need to not take 2 sets to get warmed up and come ready to go every time."
With the win NDSCS moves to 19-4 (6-1) and LRSC 3-19 (0-7). It will be a quick turnaround for the Royals as they get right back on the bus to head to Jamestown on Thursday, October 05th to take on the Jimmies JV. Then Saturday they will be down in the Twin Cities to take on regional opponents DCTC and Gogebic CC. The next home match will be Friday, October 13th vs. Dawson CC which will be played at the Sportscenter.
