Lake Region's Parker Simon Named Mon-Dak Pitcher of the Week
Lake Region State College freshman Parker Simon has been named the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week following a dominant stretch of performances on the mound for the Royals.
Simon, a right-handed pitcher and third baseman from Hampden, North Dakota, turned in a stellar week, allowing just one run across 10 innings of work while striking out nine and walking four. His week was highlighted by a complete-game shutout against Dakota College at Bottineau — a seven-inning, one-hit masterpiece in which he struck out seven and walked only three.
He followed that outing with a two-inning save against North Dakota State College of Science, again allowing just one hit, and finished the week with a solid relief appearance against Dakota County Technical College. His final line for the week: 10.0 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 run, 9 strikeouts, 4 walks, and a 0.70 ERA.
"Parker played a complete and tremendous game against Dakota College at Bottineau," said Royals Head Coach Steven Anderson. "He followed that up with a two-inning one-hit save, and closed the week with a nice relief outing. The week highlighted his growth as a pitcher. The team feeds off it — his confidence has grown, and he wears it on his sleeve on the mound. He's had to work, and that work has developed him into one of our best and most trusted pitchers in our bullpen. When he's on, it's a sight to see."
Standing 6-foot-3, Simon throws and bats right-handed and is a product of North Star High School in Cando, North Dakota. Notably, he plays alongside his twin brother Karsen Simon, a pitcher and utility player for the Royals. The duo, who also played together in high school, have quickly become an integral part of Lake Region's young and promising roster.
As the Royals try and push through the opening weekend of playoff baseball this coming weekend, Simon's emergence as a reliable and composed presence on the mound offers a significant boost to the team's depth and momentum.
