Lake Region State College Women's Hockey Adds AAA Canadian Goaltender Keira Kawula to 2025–26 Roster
The Lake Region State College women's hockey program is proud to announce the signing of Keira Kawula, an 18-year-old goaltender from Southern Alberta, Canada, who will join the Royals for the 2025–26 season.
Kawula brings not only athletic skill but also a vibrant and well-rounded background to the Royals. A latecomer to hockey by traditional standards, she first stepped on the ice at age nine — wearing her brother's skates — and quickly fell in love with the game. Since then, her passion and work ethic have shaped her into a formidable presence between the pipes.
Growing up in a tight-knit family with seven siblings, Kawula credits her parents and siblings — especially her older brother, younger brother, and little sister — as her biggest supporters. Her commitment to the game has extended beyond playing; she's worked as a junior coach for her sister's teams and served as a professional goalie and bench coach with SDR Academy.
Off the ice, Keira is a creative and curious spirit. She enjoys painting, drawing, photography, and digital art. She also loves fishing, exploring new places, and spending quality time with family and friends. A dedicated student with a passion for science — particularly biology — she aspires to become a registered nurse and eventually a doctor.
"Keira is a great addition to our program," said Head Coach Sawyer Diseth. "Her movement in the crease is incredibly fluid. She hunts the puck with confidence and commands the space on top of her crease with authority. She's going to be an immediate impact player on an already talented roster."
Though she will miss her family and friends back home, Kawula is eager to begin this next chapter at Lake Region State College, both academically and athletically.
