Lake Region State College Royals Varsity Falls To Dawson CC Despite Strong Offense
Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but LRSC Royals fell to Dawson CC 24-6 on Saturday. The LRSC Royals struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Dawson CC, giving up 24 runs. Dawson CC got things moving in the first inning, when Cortese homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Dawson CC pulled away for good with nine runs in the second inning. In the second Paulos singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Then Curran doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs. Castillo doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, followed by Artola with the single, scoring two runs. Daniel Mercandelli induced Scragg to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Fernandez doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. Dawson CC scored 12 runs in the third inning.
Rosario pitched Dawson CC to victory. The righthander allowed four hits and four runs over four and a third innings, striking out one. Austin McClure took the loss for LRSC Royals. The righthander surrendered ten runs on five hits over one and one-third innings, striking out two. Ryan Veneman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead LRSC Royals.
Lake Region State College Royals Varsity Loses Lead Early In Defeat
LRSC Royals watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 16-6 loss to Dawson CC on Saturday. Dawson CC took the lead on a home run in the first inning. LRSC Royals collected four hits and Dawson CC had 11 in the high-scoring affair. LRSC Royals got things moving in the first inning. LRSC scored two runs when Nick Thompson doubled. LRSC scored three runs in the fourth inning. LRSC Royals big inning was driven by a groundout by Robert Nickell and an error on a ball put in play by Hunter Borstad. Dawson CC scored six runs in the third inning. Scragg, Fernandez, Paulos, Curran, and Castillo powered the big inning with RBIs.
Acosta was credited with the victory for Dawson CC. The righthander surrendered five runs on three hits over four innings, striking out five. Patrick Tangen took the loss for LRSC Royals. The righty lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and ten runs.
LRSC Royals tallied one home run on the day. Ryan Veneman went yard in the fifth inning.
Jonathan Mendez, Thompson, Austyn Andrachick, and Veneman all had one hit to lead LRSC Royals.
Dawson CC Captures Lead Early To Defeat Lake Region State College Royals Varsity
LRSC Royals fell behind early and could not come back in a 14-2 loss to Dawson CC on Sunday. Dawson CC scored on a single by Castillo, a double by Artola, and a passed ball during Black's at bat in the first inning. The LRSC Royals struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Dawson CC, giving up 14 runs. Dawson CC got on the board in the first inning when Castillo singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Dawson CC scored five runs in the second inning. Cortese, Castillo, and Toussaint all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Reker got the win for Dawson CC. Reker allowed three hits and one run over four innings, walking one.
Ryan Veneman took the loss for LRSC Royals. Veneman allowed 13 hits and 13 runs over five innings, striking out one. Jonathan Mendez, Jaret Lupton, Austyn Andrachick, Payton Davisson, Carson Goodell, and Robert Nickell each managed one hit to lead LRSC Royals.
Thompson's Walk-Off Seals The Deal In Lake Region State College Royals Varsity Victory Over Dawson CC
It came down to the wire on Sunday, with LRSC taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the late innings that sealed their victory over Dawson CC. The game was tied at nine with LRSC batting in the bottom of the eighth when Nick Thompson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. A four-run lead in the fifth inning was just enough for the Royals to hold off Dawson CC for the victory. Dawson CC put up five runs in the failed comeback.
LRSC got on the board in the first inning when Payton Davisson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. After Dawson CC scored two runs in the top of the fourth, the Royals answered with two of their own. Dawson CC scored when an error scored one run and Cortese doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Lake Region then answered when Jonathan Mendez singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs. Thompson took the win for LRSC. The pitcher lasted one inning, allowing three hits and one run while striking out one and walking zero. Brock Degooyer and Nathan Grafsgaard entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Carson Heroux started the game for the Royals. The lefty lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four. James Sampson-Keck, Jaret Lupton, and Mendez all collected multiple hits for Lake Region State College Royals Varsity. Mendez, Lupton, and Sampson-Keck each managed two hits to lead LRSC Royals.
The Royals are now 4-8 on the year. They have a home double header against NDSCS on Friday and then will play NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND on Saturday.
