The Lake Region State College Royals Softball season is gearing up in the new year.
Starting in February, these girls are hitting the turf and getting back into the game.
Last season the Royals placed sixth out of seven teams in the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference. It was a tough year, but difficult seasons bring big learning experiences.
This year the five sophomore athletes can spread their new wisdom to the 12 freshman that joined the team, two of which committed over winter break. Led by Head Coach Kory Boehmer and Assistant Coach Tyler Knutson, these group of Royals have been practicing vigorously through the fall to up their game.
Coach Boehmer states these student-athletes are goal oriented.
"As we approach the new season, our team has set some ambitious yet fundamental goals. We aim for a 100% graduation rate, maintaining a 3.4 team GPA, and winning a conference championship. These objectives not only reflect our commitment to excellence both on and off the field but also our dedication to fostering well-rounded student-athletes," he said.
Boehmer added that the team's philosophy is to always play at 100%. This mindset helps to reduce the pressure players place on themselves and allows them to truly enjoy the game.
"By focusing on giving their best effort without the weight of outcomes, our athletes can perform more freely and confidently," he said.
Boehmer added that as a coach, expectations are straightforward.
"I want my players to always try their best and treat people with respect. This approach not only builds a strong team culture but also prepares them for life beyond softball."
The team kicks off its spring season on February 7th against North Dakota State College of Science.
